What is boron-10 used for?

August 11, 2023

boron-10 is often used to control fission in nuclear reactors as a neutron-capturing substance, because of its high neutron cross-section.

Boron-10 have five electrons. Boron-10 contains five protons and five neutrons, while boron-11 contains five protons and six neutrons. So, the Atomic mass of Boron is 10 and Atomic number is 5. From the relation between the Atomic number and number of electrons, it is clear that in Boron atom five electrons are present. Crystalline structure improves processability for less dust, less handling concerns, and an overall cleaner process. Available in a wide range of isotopic enrichments and particle size distributions.

10B Enriched Boron is a boron metal suitable for applications in neutron detection technologies.

We are dedicated to helping our customers find the product to fit their needs.  Toward that end, custom enrichments are available for applications that require characteristics above standard product offerings, or where alternative purity is required.

Notably, we focus on manufacturing optimized materials with an emphasis on stable boron isotopes.  In addition, we offer a proven supply chain, consistent product quality and the ability to custom engineer products for your unique applications.
